The Future of Boxed Software
On July 8th, 2009 by Duane Jackson
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so rather than a lengthy blog post I’ve put together a video to illustrate my point.
It’s also perhaps an analogy for the future of traditional software companies that don’t embrace SaaS. Turning to dust and blowing away in the wind.
I find the video strangely therapeutic. Enjoy.
Don’t forget, until the end of this month you can send us your boxed accounting software for our big bonfire and we’ll give you ours free. Details can be found here.

It’s taking a while to get going… Geez, Sage can’t even go up in flames properly!

Amazed that I sat and watched the whole video of a box of Sage software burning, but just couldn’t take my eyes off it.
It is indeed therapeutic…

I think this hits it on every level (album, track and artist) – apart from the tune being shit.

Sorry – YouTube butchered the video. They blocked the audio (now sorted) and also chopped off half the video.
So you only saw a part of it, Richard! It’s now twice as long and should go all the way through to it turning to dust and blowing away.

Emily, the music is Mozarts Funeral March.
Richard, according to the logs – Sage are certainly aware of it!

I dont think this is a good way of marketing slagging off the competitors. Kashflow is a good service . Would it be better to highlight the positive points. There is a lot sage can do which Kashflow cannot. Free Agent is better than Sage and Kashflow in many aspects.
I sincerely hope you wont be burning all that plastic when there is so many free recycling options around.

Thanks for the note about the music, Duane. It sounded like either Mozart or Beethoven but I wasn’t 100% certain which it was.
(Sorry, showing off my music degree here!)
