What I spent my Amazon Vouchers On

On January 28th, 2009 by Duane Jackson

Just a quick follow up to my earlier post, Wondering what to buy with your Christmas Amazon vouchers?

After spending time on Twitter where we’re all supposedly reading what others are eating for breakfast, I’m assuming someone might care what I spent my vouchers on:

How Mumbo-jumbo Conquered the World: A Short History of Modern Delusions
Francis Wheen

Outliers: The Story of Success
Malcom Gladwell (Author of Blink and The Tipping Point)

The Pig That Wants to be Eaten: And Ninety-nine Other Thought Experiments
Julian Baggini

The Maverick: Dispatches from an Unrepentant Capitalist
Luke Johnson

I had a browse in my local bricks-and-mortar Waterstones for some inspiration. I don’t think I saved any money by buying online at Amazon instead of in person at Waterstone. Some books I was going to get for my daughter are definitely more expensive on Amazon.

So are Amazon just more convenient than real-world book shops now rather than convenient and cheaper?

As an aside, I placed my order on Monday and chose the free “super-saver” delivery option. They arrived this morning. Why would anyone pay a premium to have them delivered First Class when you get them just as quickly with the free option?
